European Cruising Tips
Posted Tue, Mar 24th 2009, 12:33Cruising in Europe can be a challenge for many people - trying to figure out which itinerary, cruise line, and time of year to sail Europe can be a major feat. This is the best summary I've seen in recent years summarizing European cruising published on msnbc.com.
However, the two biggest bullet points that are missing from the article is:
1) River cruising is a great option for those who've sailed on the big cruise lines already and want to see a different side of Europe. Cruises along the Rhine, Danube, Rhone, Siene, and Elbe Rivers (just to name a few) will take you to the historical areas of Europe that the big cruise lines can't. Sailing these rivers is an 'all-inclusive' experience (ie., shore excursions are included at each port among other things) and will allow you to see the major cities, towns, and villages that were (and still are) the foundation of European civilization.
River cruising is the fastest growing segment of the cruise industry for a reason. Some of the larger, well-known river cruise companies include Viking River Cruises, Uniworld, and AMA Waterways. All of the itineraries available are searchable right here on the Cruise Planners website.
2) The other major item that was left out of this article is simple: Always use a qualified Travel Professional! More specifically, work with an Niche Cruise Specialist who has had thorough education and training with regard to the river cruise experience.
