Grand Turk Cruise Terminal Closed Due To Hurricane Ike
The multimillion dollar cruise terminal on Grand Turk which opened in 2006 is temporarily closed as a result of Hurricane Ike. Cruise lines with Grand Turk on the itinerary will be re-routed indefinitely for now. Carnival Corporation, which built and owns the cruise terminal, asserts that the Grand Turk Cruise Center will be "a short-term closure" as reported in today's issue of the USA Today Cruise Log.
Apparently, everything I've read confirms that the cruise terminal itself sustained minimal damage, but damage to other structures on Turk & Caicos are reported to be nothing short of catastrophic. The damage to homes, business, and hotels is anywhere from 70 to 100%. As a result, the vast majority of islanders are now homeless.
