Best Recommendations: Family Resorts
There’s so much value in an all-inclusive resort vacation that it just makes sense to take the kids and enjoy! But, not all resorts are created equal. While many resorts caters to just about everyone, there are only a handful of resorts that specifically cater to families with children.
Similar to family cruises, all-inclusive resorts catering to families have perfected the all-inclusive vacation experience. Kid camps, family activities, and family-friendly entertainment are just some of the amenities your family will enjoy at these resorts.
Here are my best recommendations for family-friendly all-inclusive resorts:
Beaches (Jamaica and Turks & Caicos) – Owned by the Sandals family of brands, Beaches is the ultimate resort for families. With 3 resorts (two in Jamaica, 1 in Turks & Caicos), this resort chain has thought of everything. Waterparks, stellar age-specific kids and teens areas, and even a nursery with Certified Nannies, these resorts have everything imaginable. The room options are built with families in mind, including a variety of multi-bedroom suites.
One thing I truly appreciate about Beaches is that they’ve taken the time to think of activities and entertainment specifically for pre-teens and teens. At most resorts, teen programming is non-existent. Not at Beaches. Here, teens and pre-teens have a ton of age-appropriate activities to choose from such as their own ‘nightclub’, pizza and soda bars, and group water sports. And, pre-teens and teens have their own dedicated spaces. In my opinion, Beaches is the ideal resort vacation for families with teenagers.
Azul by Karisma (Mexico) – with 3 resorts in Mexico and 1 opening soon in Jamaica, this resort chain does family vacationing right! Known for its ‘Gourmet Inclusive’ culinary theme, this resort chain definitely works hard at making sure family members have plenty to do. 2 out of the 3 resorts in Mexico are plenty for kids and teens, while 1 of the resorts focuses on families with younger kids. And, with its periodic ‘Kids Stay Free’ promotion, it’s a great value for families looking to have an upscale experience at a great rate.
Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort (Mexico) - As the largest resort in Latin America, Moon Palace by Palace Resorts has something for everyone! It's one of the best options for families, singles, and groups traveling to Cancun. There's a TON of activity on this property including a 27 hole golf course, FloRider (surf simulator), Dolphin Discovery, and a ton more. Upscale, superb service, and a wide variety of accommodations to fit just about any budget, this resort has proven time and time again why it's the premier family resort in Cancun.
Moon Palace Jamaica Grande (Jamaica) - The newest family resort in Jamaica is one of the best! This resort has everything the Moon Palace in Cancun offers, but on a much smaller scale. Upscale, prime location, and with one of the best spas on the island, this resort was a long time coming for Jamaica. This resort is the only resort in Jamaica that doesn't require a taxi to do anything off site - here, you can walk off of the property and be in the heart of town. It's also located close the most popular excursions on the island including Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain. And, with dolphins right on site, you don't even have to leave the property to enjoy a dolphin encounter for family members of all ages.
Generations Riviera Maya by Karisma and Generations Maroma (Mexico) – Both opened in late 2013. These resort features all suites, all nannies, and all butler service in the Riviera Maya. Both being boutique properties (only 144 suites at Riviera Maya and 30 at Maroma), these properties are perfect for families traveling together who want unsurpassed service. As a bonus, guests 18 years and older can enjoy the facilities of the El Dorado properties next door.
Honorable Mention
Atlantis Resort (Bahamas)– unbeknownst to most people, Atlantis is not an all-inclusive although it comes across like it should be. They do have a meal plan available for purchase, but even with it, it’s not a true all-inclusive. The Atlantis is, though, one of the better resorts for families with children. It’s huge and has a ton to do for kids of all ages.
